Scott Shwayder

Scott Lewis Shwayder, a fifth-generation native Coloradan, passed away July 26, 2019, in Denver. There was a private burial. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, noon, at Temple Emanuel. People are encouraged to share fond, poignant or fun memories of Scott at the service.

Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Scott was a sports enthusiast (‘Go Buffs’), a world traveler, an avid golfer and above all, a fabulous friend, father, confidante, husband and lover of life,” the family said.

“Our loss is immeasurable, and the world is a better place for having had him in it. He will be missed.”

Mr. Shwayder was born in 1963 in Denver.

He attended Thomas Jefferson and CU, where he studied business.

Mr. Shwayder began his career in commercial real estate with Coldwell Banker in 1987.

In 1990, he joined forces with Marc Lippitt and was instrumental in growing Unique Properties Inc. into one of the metro area’s largest privately owned commercial real estate firms.

Mr. Shwayder pursued several other endeavors, including the creation of a commercial property management company and leading the acquisition of Front Range Bank (now Fortis Private Bank).

He married Justyn Sirkin Shwayder in 1997 and they had two children, Cole and Julia.

Mr. Shwayder, who was on several nonprofit boards, most recently served in that capacity at the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center at UCHealth.

The family said he was passionate about mental health awareness and removing the stigma of mental illness.

Scott Shwayder is survived by Justyn Sirkin Shwayder, his wife of 23 years; children Cole and Julia Shwayder; mother Arlene “Snookie” Shwayder; siblings Kerri (David) Greenberg and Bonnie (Jack) Kassell; sister-in-law Julie (David) Sirkin Blake; and nephews and nieces Alison (Clay) Greenberg Millice, Zachary (Erica) Greenberg, Kendra Kassel, Kelsey (Justin) Oliver, Kodi Kassel, Eben Blake and Eva Blake.

His father Donald Shwayder passed away Aug. 13, 2019.
