Sarah Cohen

Sarah Cohen, voted Woman of the Year by the Women’s League for Israel in 2002, passed away May 10, 2010, in Denver.

Rabbi David Zucker officiated at the May 13 service at Shalom Park. The burial was held May 17 at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Queens, NY. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mrs. Cohen was born Sept. 23, 1910, in Lumza, Poland. She came to New York at the age of eight.


A high school graduate, she worked as a beautician and as an operator in the garment industry in New York.

She married Benjamin Cohen in 1933. Mr. Cohen passed away in 1995.

A member of the executive board of the Women’s League for Israel, Mrs. Cohen moved to Denver in 2007 and lived at the Allied Jewish Apartments.

Mrs. Cohen is survived by her children Marcia Helfant of Denver and Gerald (Diana) Cohen of  South Carolina; grandchildren Jordon Cohen, Sharon (Dan) Cravitz and Stephen (Brighton) Helfant; and great-grandchildren Mia and Elliott Cravitz and Benjamin and David Helfant.
