Colorado Springs native and longtime Denver resident Sandra “Sandy” Tennenbaum passed away on April 30, 2023. She was 84. A service was held May 3 at Temple Sinai, officiated by Rabbi Richard Rheins. Feldman Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Born on December 23, 1938, Mrs. Tennenbaum’s (nee Kean) family moved to Denver, where she attended East High School.

In September, 1955, Sandra and Barry Tennenbaum were married; they remained a couple until Mr. Tennenbaum’s passing in 2009.

“They were wonderful partners in life and in business,” the family said.

Mrs. Tennenbaum founded Occasions By Sandy Catering in 1970, a company that is now owned by Mrs. Tennenbaum’s son, David Tennenbaum, and Jeremy Bronson.

“She touched so many people in the event industry and helped many start their careers,” the family said.

“She was an entrepreneur when women were not typically considered to be owners of businesses in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

“She was a true force of nature.”

Survivors are Mrs. Tennenbaum’s children Jay (Linda Seals) Tennenbaum, Howard (Jodi) Tennenbaum, Robyn (Miles) Ellenby and David (Andrea) Tennenbaum; and 17 grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to Temple Sinai.
