Ruth Wohlauer, wife of the late Dr. Valentin E. Wohlauer, passed away March 7, 2009, in Denver. She was 90 years old.

Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Regina Heit officiated at the March 10 service held at Temple Emanuel. Interment took place March 12 at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“She was well known for her energetic and generous, and always welcomed her many friends and family members to her home where they enjoyed her superb cooking,” the family said.

Ruth Levy was born in Germany to Bertha and Rafael Levy. She was the youngest of six children.

The family came to Denver in 1927.

The Wohlauers lived in northeastern Colorado, where they raised three children. They moved to Englewood in 1971, when Dr. Wohlauer accepted a position with the Colorado State Public Health Department.

Mrs. Wohlauer served on the boards of the Arapahoe Mental Health Council and Hospice of Metro Denver for many years.

A member of Temple Emanuel, she endowed a media room at DU’s Penrose Library in memory of her two adult children Ronald and Susan, who predeceased her.

Mrs. Wohlauer is survived by her son Dr. Peter F. Wohlauer of Cambridge, Mass.; and grandchildren Benjamin, Katherine, Max, Frank and Lucy.
Contributions may be made to DU’s Penrose Library.
