Robert McCurdy

Dr. Robert S. McCurdy, former head of the Maternal and Child Care Department at the Colorado State Health Department, passed away Feb. 10, 2010.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. McCurdy met his wife Marjorie at Buffalo Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, NY.

After graduating from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he worked as a ship’s doctor during WW II.

Dr. McCurdy moved to Boulder in 1954 and joined the staff of the Boulder Medical Center.

Mrs. McCurdy passed away on Jan. 22, 1985.

After retiring from the state health department, he received the Sidney Chipman Award from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health for his work at the health department.

He volunteered at Clinica Campasina in Lafayette, Colo., where he cared for indigent children and families.

Dr. McCurdy is survived by his children Nancy McCurdy of Denver, Cathy, Beth and John; and four grandchildren.
