Rita Tensly

A longtime teacher in Denver Public Schools, Rita Jo Tensly died on December 8, 2022. She was 89. A service was held on December 9 at Feldman Mortuary Chapel, officiated by Rabbi Birdie Becker. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Ms. Tensly taught for 28 years in the public school system, starting as an elementary classroom teacher and later as an elementary music teacher. She retired from teaching in 1987.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, in March, 1929, Ms. Tensly moved to Colorado in the early 1950s after graduating from college at the University of Miami, where she achieved her degree in music education. She later received her masters of music education from DU in 1973.

“After retiring she loved to keep herself active and busy and was involved with many organizations,” her family said, “including Hadassah, National Council of Jewish Women Children’s Theatre, and the Colorado Jewish Genealogy Society of Colorado.

“She was also a very active alumni member of her beloved professional music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.”
Survivors are children Debbie (Neil Charles) Kruckman and Jeff Tensly; and grandchildren Jason and Brandon Kruckman.
