Radio silence from
Sen. Michael Bennet

Is Sen. Michael Bennet avoiding talking to the Jewish community? It is standard practice for the Intermountain Jewish News to interview Colorado candidates for the US Senate. Bennet’s office has not responded to numerous requests. (For the record, neither has his opponent Daryl Glenn.)

Sen. Bennet also did not appear at the NCJW/JEWISHcolorado Candidates Forum.

Colorado’s Jewish voters traditionally look to these two outlets — the IJN and the Candidates Forum — to understand the candidates and issues, at least as they pertain to the Jewish community, before casting their ballots.

Is our senior senator avoiding talking to the Jewish community because he doesn’t want to discuss his vote on the Iran deal?

As a public servant and a representative in Washington of the people of Colorado, Bennet should be prepared to discuss any decisions he’s made with his constituents, as uncomfortable as that may be.

Perhaps Bennet feels his chances for reelection are so strong he doesn’t need to fight for his seat. His risk analysis may tell him it’s not worth putting himself out there for a difficult discussion. Is that what we want of a US senator?

If our speculation is incorrect, we invite Bennet, once again, to sit down and discuss his candidacy and the issues.
