Rabbi David J. Zucker will retire as full-time chaplain at Shalom Cares (formerly Shalom Park) at the end of June.
Rabbi Steven J. Rubenstein of Massachusetts will become the full-time rabbi for residents and patients at Shalom Cares starting in July.
Rabbi Zucker began his career at the Shalom Park Nursing Home in 1993. Since then, his congregation has grown to include residents and family members, both Jewish and non-Jewish.
For more than 18 years, Rabbi Zucker has been responsible for all rabbinical duties, has officiated at lifecycle events for residents and family members, and has celebrated an abundance of Jewish holidays.
A respected member of Denvers rabbinic community, he is a beloved colleague of the Shalom Cares staff.
Rabbi Zucker, an author and master of puns, will leave an indelible mark on residents, family members and colleagues.
Rabbi Rubenstein has served as the spiritual leader of Temple Bnai Abraham in Beverly, Mass., a northern suburb of Boston, for the past 12 years.
Previous to this, he served congregations in San Francisco and El Paso.
Rabbi Rubenstein received his ordination from The Academy for Jewish Religion in New York.
Prior to rabbinical school, he received an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from Brandeis Universitys Hornstein Program for Jewish Communal Service.
Rabbi Rubenstein has worked for the senior adult department of the JCCA in St. Louis and as an executive director for congregations in Worcester, Mass., and Washington, DC.
He completed a course of supervised clinical pastoral education, as well as additional coursework in pastoral counseling while serving as Jewish chaplain at Beverly Hospital and in several skilled nursing facilities.
