Rabbi Movsky, 1917-2013

Rabbi Myron Movsky was an extraordinarily gentle soul, exactly the kind of person one would expect to go into the rabbinate. He was full of compassion and understanding. He was humble. He loved the simple virtues and loved his family and congregants. His loss this week at the age of 95 pains us and creates a void.

He was never the most influential or powerful rabbinic presence in this area — in fact, he was not a rabbi in Denver at all; rather, in a relatively small congregation in Cheyenne, Wyo. Yet, the spirit has a way of penetrating barriers, and Rabbi Movskyspirit permeated Cheyenne and Wyoming and beyond, to Denver and environs. A soft word from him, a warm smile, a wry comment, had a way of touching people near and far.

His wife Hadassah was like he was, and likewise his children: salt of the earth, understated, honest, sincere, grateful for what they had. Rabbi Movsky was a role model of the spirit, and will be deeply missed.
