Rabbi Brian Immerman joined Temple Emanuel on July 1 as assistant rabbi.
He was ordained from HUC-JIR in New York City on May 6.
Rabbi Immerman grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, at Temple Tifereth Israel and was a camper and staff member at Goldman Union Camp Institute.
He graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in computer science; he was also captain of the swim team.
Between college and attending HUC, Rabbi Immerman worked at Key Bank in Cleveland and then for two years worked in the youth division of the Union for Reform Judaism.
As a rabbinical student Rabbi Immerman was part of the Schusterman Rabbinic Fellowship, a collaboration between HUC and Jewish Theological Seminary intended to foster innovation and vision in congregational rabbis.
Rabbi Immerman brings to his rabbinate a passion for the outdoors both environmentalism and spirituality in nature.
For the past two years he has led teens on outdoor adventure treks and will continue this practice at Temple Emanuel through hiking, gardening, biking and participating at Shwayder Camp.
In addition to conducting worship services and providing pastoral counseling, he will co-lead Temple Emanuels young professionals programming; work with the Max Frankel Religious School Confirmation students; work with Hesed,, Emanuels community organizing initiative; and perform lifecycle events.
