We aren’t the only ones who feel like every day is Purim.
We’ve been living in Opposite Land for a long time now, at least since Oct. 7, 2023.
In Opposite Land, Jews are instructed on Judaism by anti-Israel non-Jews like Zohran Mamdani.
In Opposite Land, Hamas invades Israel and murders civilians and babies, ruthlessly destroys family homes, and kidnaps Holocaust survivors — but it is Israel that is genocidal.
In Opposite Land, women roll their eyes when Israeli women say they were abused in captivity.
Ve’nahafoch hu — everything turned on its head. That’s the message of Purim. But what does a one-day Purim have to do with the 5786 reality of daily Purim?
A lot, as it turns out.
Because in Opposite Land, we have seen modern day Mordechais and Esthers risk their lives to defend the Jewish people. Because in Opposite Land we need the hope that Purim brings — that evil decrees will be undone. That good will prevail. That the Jewish people cannot be destroyed.
In Opposite Land, where Purim never ends, we need the Megillah’s message more than ever!
You know what else — collectively, as a people — we need? The opportunity to blow off steam. The opportunity to revel in our history, faith and identity. An opportunity to laugh out loud at the absurdity of Opposite Land. Seize the opportunity!
