Profile: TV sports anchor Eric Goodman follows the action

Eric GoodmanSports director and anchor Eric Goodman at Fox Channel 31 is representative of the high caliber of sports personalities doing this kind of work on the local scene.

You can catch Goodman twice a day Monday-Thursday and on Sundays when he co-anchors with Chris Tanaka.

He shares the set with Ron Zapolo and Libby Weaver.

At 41 years of age, this native of Chicago and graduate of Indiana University has covered many sports locations during his course of working in the sports world.

Included among these are Kalispell, Mont. (NBC), Topeka, Kan. (ABC), Buffalo (ABC), Atlanta (CNN) and Chicago (Fox Sports).

Despite the pressures of his job, Goodman feels it is fun-filled and vastly enjoyable.

Goodman views games up close and personal and takes pride in the fact he can visit with the players on a one-to-one basis and have face-to-face contact.

Unlike some others in his profession, Goodman watches the Nuggets and Avalanche at the Pepsi Center, the Rockies at Coors Field and the Broncos at Invesco Field.

This way, he does not lack the personal contact which he feels cannot be derived from the TV screen.

Goodman’s wife Rachel is about as ardent a sports fan as her husband, especially when it comes to the Nuggets. Guess who stayed home and babysat with five-month-old Mia when the Cleveland Cavilers came to town? It wasn’t her mom Rachel.

Goodman’s stepson Harrison has a seven-year-old’s ready smile which gives Goodman much pleasure.

Whatever he does Eric Goodman has a bright future ahead, even if it’s not in the sports world. Whether it’s morning news, hosting game shows, involving himself in politics or being an investigative reporter, he seems destined for success.
