Phillip Nevins

Phillip Abraham Nevins, a proud veteran, passed away Oct. 8, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 91. Services were held Oct. 15 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nev.

Feldman Mortuary made the local arrangements.

“Phil was outgoing, friendly, had a joyful spirit and loved dogs,” his family said. “He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.”

Mr. Nevins was the son of Ruben and Fanny Neviasky, who both came to the US from Poland in the mid-1920s.

He was raised in north Minneapolis, where Jewish families and friends all lived within a few blocks of one another, similar to Denver’s West Side.

Mr. Nevins, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, served in the US Coast Guard during WW II.

He resided in Madison, Dallas and Phoenix in his early years and moved to the Bay area when his children moved to Denver in 1965.

Mr. Nevins was predeceased by Phyllis Nevins, his wife of 40 years.

In the early 1990s, he relocated to the newly built Sun City Summerlin in Las Vegas to enjoy his golden years.

He golfed, bowled until this past January, and was a founding member of Temple Bet Knesset Bamidbar and Temple Bet Emet.

Mr. Nevins was very involved in Jewish War Veterans Post 64 of Southern Nevada.

Phil Nevins is survived by his son Jeff Nevins of Visalia, Calif., and daughter Kim Nevins of Denver; grandchildren Erik Bromley of Denver, Alan Nevins of Portland, Ore., and Heather Nevins of Ames, Iowa; sister Marcella Kahn and her children; nieces, nephews and Denver cousins; and close friends in Denver and Minneapolis.
