Philip R. Kaye, father of Rabbi Steven Kaye of Denver, passed away Oct. 11, 2011, in Tampa, Fla. The graveside service was held Oct. 13 at Boynton Beach, Fla.
Phil loved people and life throughout his 94 years, the family said. He was kind and generous, and always had a story or joke to tell. He left a lasting impression of smiles and warmth wherever he went.
A decorated veteran of the US Army, Mr. Kaye graduated City College of New York.
His wife Leona Kaye predeceased him.
He was a leader in the womens fashion industry in New York City, where he was a partner in a dress manufacturing business.
During his retirement, Mr. Kaye taught at the Fashion Institute of Ft. Lauderdale.
A dedicated Reform Jew, he was active in several leadership positions at Temple Beth Am in Merrick, NY, Temple Sinai in Delray Beach, Fla., and Sharey Shalom in Boynton Beach.
He belonged to the Reform outreach commission.
Mr. Kaye is survived by his sons Norman (Mary Ellen) Kaye of Wernersville, Pa., and Rabbi Steven (Lori) Kaye of Denver; and grandchildren Stephanie, Sam, Alyssa and Leena.
He was predeceased by his son William Kaye.
Mr. Kaye is mourned by his dear friend Selma Rothseid.
