Philip Hilvitz
Philip Eugene Hilvitz, a Pueblo native and owner of Boston Foods and La Tolteca, passed away April 20, 2017, in Castle Pines. He was 77. Rabbi Steven Foster officiated at the April 23 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Family always came first to Phil, and he freely said, ‘I love you!’” the family said. “He had an amazing group of friends that were a great support to him and Mom during his illness.
“Phil had the patience and intelligence to figure out how almost anything worked, and could fix anything from a curling iron to a piece of machinery that made tortillas.
“He will be missed by all who knew him. He was an amazing man.”
Mr. Hilvitz was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Pueblo, to Pauline and Sam Hilvitz.
He graduated Centennial High School in Pueblo and CU.
Mr. Hilvitz married Joann Mankoff Hilvitz on June 25, 1961. They were together for 56 years.
A food manufacturer, owner of Boston Foods and Tolteca and an inventor, he was an intrepid entrepreneur.
Mr. Hilvitz was on the boards of American Federal Savings and Loan and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Foundation.
Director of the Rocky Mountain PBS board, he volunteered for SCORE, an SBA initiative for people starting their first businesses; Volunteers of America and Sky Ridge Hospital.
Mr. Hilvitz is survived by his wife Joni Hilvitz; children Lynette (Joey) Simon, Heidi (Mark) Leachman and Brent (Jennifer) Hilvitz; grandchildren Ari, Taylor, Hunter, Harrison, Parker and Sam; and brother Art Hilvitz.
