Paul Jacobs
Paul A. Jacobs, 78, who was instrumental in bringing the Major League franchise named the Colorado Rockies to Denver, died of complications of cancer on July 2, 2018, in Denver. Rabbis Salomon Gruenwald and Rick Rheins officiated at the July 5 service at the HEA. Burial followed at Rose Hill. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Mr. Jacobs, one of Colorado’s top business and real estate lawyers for over 50 years, was a premier sports authority on stadiums throughout the US.
He was born June 5, 1940, in Boston, Mass., and grew up in Natick, Mass.
Mr. Jacobs received a BA in economics from Tufts in 1960 and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base, where he was a lieutenant in the US Air Force.
He was married to his wife Carole Jacobs for over 55 years.
Following his Air Force service, Mr. Jacobs worked at the First National Bank of Denver during the day and studied law at DU in the evenings.
He earned his JD in 1968 and began his legal career at Holme Roberts and Owen.
Mr. Jacobs later established the law firm of Jacobs, Chase, Frick, Kleinkopf & Kelly.
A leading authority on sports stadiums, Mr. Jacobs led the Petco Park project in San Diego, the new basketball arena for the Sacramento Kings and the new arena in Milwaukee, future home of the Bucks.
He served on the boards of the ADL, American Jewish Committee and Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife Carole Jacobs; sister Ellen (Alan) Saxe; children Steven (Wendy), Cheryl (Andy), David (Caryn) and Craig (Amy); and eight grandchildren.
