Paul “Pinky” Cohen, a native Denverite, passed away Nov. 4, 2017, at his home in California. A memorial service was held Nov. 9 at Temple Beth Hillel in Los Angeles, Calif.
“Paul had amazing charm and a quirky sense of humor,” the family said. “His nickname was Pinky, and his nieces and nephews called him Pinky.
“In fact, they joked that only ‘G-d and Uncle Pinky’ knew everything.
“Paul fought cancer for over 40 years,” the family said. “His humor, optimism and positive attitude enabled him to live an enriched life.”
Mr. Cohen was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Denver, the youngest child of Sarah Weintraub and Samuel Cohen.
He lived on Denver’s West Side until he moved to San Francisco on March 1, 1963.
Mr. Cohen’s future wife Rita was the first person he met in California. They married in April, 1966.
The couple moved to Los Angeles for business in 1970.
Mr. Cohen initially worked in sporting goods and became a top salesman.
He started investing in real estate as a side business, and this became his full-time career until he retired.
Mr. Cohen, an active member of the Jewish community, was involved with Temple Israel of Hollywood, the Los Feliz Jewish Center and numerous other organizations.
He loved music, Israel, history, politics, and his Denver and Boys Nite Out groups.
“His many relatives and friends will dearly miss him,” the family said.
Mr. Cohen is survived by his loving wife and best friend Rita; children David Cohen (Dina) and Stacy Cohen (Christopher); and granddaughters Lexi Cohen, Sarah Davidson and Emma Cohen.
