Philip Singer
Denver native Philip Singer died on December 13, 2023, one day after celebrating his 75th birthday. A service was held on December 15 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Sarah Shulman and HEA musical director Eitan Cantor. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Born on December 12, 1948, Mr. Singer attended South High School. He began working for the US Postal Service in 1967 and retired in 2007.
In April, 1978, Philip Singer and Vivian Chandler were married. They remained a couple until Mr. Singer’s passing.
“Philip was the sweetest man that could ever be,” his family said. “May all of Philip’s memories be a blessing to all of his family and whoever knew him.”
Survivors are Mr. Singer’s wife Vivian; children Melissa (Joshua) Close, Rebecca (Lorin) Meskin and Nathaniel (Mara) Singer; grandchildren Jacob, Chana and Avi Close and Samuel Meskin; sister Joanne Singer and Eliot (Skip) Singer; and brother-in-law Norman Chandler.

Elizabeth Cohen
Longtime Denver resident and one of the founders of Herzl Jewish Day School (now DJDS), Elizabeth Cohen passed away on December 19, 2023, at the age of 88. A service was held on December 22 at Horan & McConaty in Centennial, officiated by Rabbi Rick Brody. Horan & McConaty handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Cohen (née Robinson) was born in Chicago on April 27, 1935. She attended the University of Chicago and received her master’s degree in clinical social work.
In 1965, Mrs. Cohen moved to Denver. The following year she met Edward Cohen; they were married in 1967, and were a couple until Mr. Cohen’s passing in 2018.
In 1975, Mr. and Mrs. Cohen were among six families to found Herzl Jewish Day School. Mrs. Cohen also managed Mrs. Cohen’s law practice for decades until their retirement in 1989.
Mrs. Cohen was a volunteer at the Denver Zoo for 25 years.
“She loved animal handling and teaching children,” Mrs. Cohen’s family said. “She had a particular love for horses and rode whenever she could, including trips to dude ranches in her 20s and her 80s.”
Her family also noted “she joyously watched her Denver Nuggets win the 2023 championship.”
Survivors are children Sara Cohen and Michael Cohen; and sister-in-law Agnete.

Sara Braver
Sara Braver died on December 1, 2023, at the age of 76. A service was held on December 4 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Sarah Shulman and HEA musical director Eitan Kantor. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Mrs. Braver’s passing occurred less than six months after the death of her husband, Morton Braver, who passed away on June 8, 2023, at the age of 79.
Mr. and Mrs. Braver were married in 1969. They were longtime residents of Anaheim, Calif., and moved to Denver in 2020.
Mrs. Braver (née Shapiro) was born on October 15, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY. She attended California State University-Fullerton and was a special education resource specialist for 13 years for the Anaheim City School District. She was also a volunteer for the Pacific Symphony and other schools in California.
“She remembered every loved one’s birthdays, anniversaries and special milestones,” Mrs. Braver’s family said. “Anyone who knew Sara felt her warmth and instant love.
“Sara’s life lessons were: Don’t take anything for granted. Everything can change in a moment. Be grateful for all that you are. Remember who is most important to you and cherish them.
“Life is like a watermelon; it’s sweet but you have to spit out the seeds.”
Survivors are children Jason Braver and Rachel (Andrew) Markowitz; grandchildren Aria and Jack Markowitz; and nieces and nephews Kenneth and Kim Braver and Eric Feldman.
