Irvin Rubin
Irvin Rubin, two months prior to what would have been his 100th birthday, passed away on Jan. 16, 2022. A service was held Jan. 17 at Rose Hill Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Bruce Dollin and Rabbi Salomon Gruenwald.
Mr. Rubin was born on March 22, 1922 in Raton, NM, the youngest of four sons. The extended Rubin family were the only Jewish family in Raton.
Attending CU Boulder for one year, Mr. Rubin voluntarily enlisted in the US Army. He served four years in England in the Air Corps during WW II.
In 1950, Mr. Rubin married Charlotte Goldberg. They were married over 71 years before his passing. In 1952, the couple moved from Raton to Denver, where Mr. Rubin began his career in the retail business. He owned establishments such as the Hollywood Inn in Denver, Cowboy Corral in Golden and Littleton, JR Liquors Northglenn, Gordon’s Department Store in Center, Colo., and a department store in Golden.
Mr. and Mrs. Rubin were longtime members of the Hebrew Educational Alliance. “His greatest pleasure was his family,” said his family.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte; children Mark (Beth), Rick (Julie) and Jody (Mark Berman); and eight grandchildren.

Bernie Katz
Korean War Navy veteran Bernie Katz passed away on December 28, 2021. A private burial was held on Jan. 2, officiated by Rabbi Richard Rheins. A public service will be held on Feb. 20, 11 a.m., at Temple Sinai.
Mr. Katz was born on June 28, 1930 in Mount Pleasant, NY. His family moved to Denver and he attended North High School and the University of Denver. He played baseball at DU.
After serving in the Korean War, Mr. Katz returned to Denver and in 1954 married Shana Katz.
Mr. and Mrs. Katz became respected business owners and operated the successful United Business Products in south- east Denver for over 30 years.
“He was known for his warm personality, compassion, loyalty and moral integrity when it came to personal and business matters,” his family said.
Survivors include his wife Shana Katz; daughters Terri (Jerry) Orlovsky and Peggy (Gary) Zimmerman; and four grandchildren.
