Alan Schreier
Alan Schreier, who was born to parents who had just survived the Holocaust, passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 80. A service was held on June 26 at Feldman Mortuary, with interment at Emanuel Cemetery, officiated by rabbi Rick Brody. Feldman Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Mr. Schreier was born in a displaced persons camp in Eschwege, Germany, in 1946. He and his parents immigrated to the US in 1947 and settled in Chicago, and Alan became a US citizen at the age of 17.
After obtaining his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Chicago in 1963, Mr. Schreier completed his PhD in biophysics at MIT, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center.
In 1972, Mr. Schreier met his future wife, Ann. They were married in June, 1975, and remained a couple for more than 50 years until Mr. Schreier’s passing.
Mr. Schreier became a grants administrator at the National Institute of Health, followed by positions at the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Cancer Institute. He then worked in administration at East Carolina University until his retirement four years ago, when Mrs. Schreier retired as professor of nursing at ECU. The couple then moved to Denver.
“Anyone who has ever had a conversation with Alan is aware that he possesses broad knowledge of many fields,” Mrs. Schreier said. “He lived a life of blessing.
“He was constantly helping people, desiring to help people in whatever way he was able.
“This was a key character trait.”
Survivors are Mr. Schreier’s wife Ann; children Rachel (Kevin McCrossin) Schreier, Miriam (Simon) Hartman and Ezra (Kyle) Schreier; siblings Victor (Sarah) Schreier, Janet Niles and Sherry (John) Mussar; and grandchild Cian Patrick McCrossin.

Jane Billings
Longtime Colorado resident Jane Billings died on July 21, 2026. She was 73. A service was held on July 26 at Temple Emanuel, with interment at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
A native of Bedford, Iowa, and born on May 6, 1953, Ms. Billings earned her teaching degree at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. She received her master’s degree at UNC.
Mr. Billings became an educator, teaching speech, poetry and language arts. She ended her career as principal of Valley High School in Gilcrest.
“The constant drive for Jane was the importance of our public education system and her desire to be part of making it better,” her family said.
“She was unapologetically supportive of the social causes she believed in and stood up for those who couldn’t for themselves. Yet she believed in civil discourse and was furious with the decline of that most basic tenant of our country in recent years.”
In September, 2005, Jane met Steven Kreisman in Longmont. They became life partners instantly.
“Introductions were courtesy of modern computer dating,” Ms. Billings’ family said. “Both considered the date a longshot. Sparks flew on that special evening and they have been together ever since.”
Survivors are Steven Kreisman; children Jennifer Jensen and Mark and Karen Kreisman; grandchildren Elizabeth and Katherine Jensen and Natalie and Reed Kriesman; and sister Julia Stacy.
