Numbers

Sometimes, when numbers are so large, they seem unreal. Like the $25 billion Amendment 69 is asking. According to 2015 census estimates, there are 5,456,574 legal residents of Colorado. Of those, 23% are minors, so that leaves 4,201,462 adults. The poverty rate is 11.5%, so that leaves roughly 4,057,136 taxpayers. Applying this figure, that $25 billion breaks down to $6,161 per person. The ballot question says the funds will start being collected in the first fiscal year, presumably June 30, 2017. To my way of thinking, that means that until ColoradoCare is in place, we will pay for health insurance and for the as-yet non-existing public health service.
