Is it just me, or are you too dizzy and giddy from all the recent amusements and distractions? Between the National Western Stock Show and the political theater culminating in the Iowa caucuses, its been pretty entertaining. You turn the radio from one station to the next, and it goes from bombastic Trump being trumped to Clinton shenanigans and Feeling the Bern, and on to talk of the unexpected rise of Rubio that many seem to be watching.
Then add in the the Great Broncos to this already entertaining mix, and forget it. You have got a heady and dangerous cocktail of endless entertainment.
Thats what recent American news feels like, a whirlwind of one long frivolous yet absorbing stream of entertainment. Who needs artificial entertainment such as movies or TV when youve got all this?
Don’t get me wrong. I am fully committed and on board with Broncomania. What do I know about football? Practically zilch. A sports fan I am not, but a Denver loyalist who roots for her home team? You’ve got the right girl. You can count on me.
Together with my fellow Denverites, I feel euphoric. I even watched the AFC Championship game. As I sat there, my fists clenched and for the first time I finally began to understand why they sell so much beer at the games. It sure was a nail biter!
So, Super Bowl 50 here we come!
Let me tell you, its not easy being a lonely Denverite in Manhattan these days, missing out on all the unified Broncomania of these weeks that I know and love so well. That unified feeling of an entire town, that sense of camaraderie and happiness, there aint nothing like that Orange Crush.
The truth is, after the AFC game I went online to read up on the sports commentary. The first title to an article that popped up on a Google search was a cluster of three words containing Denver Region and Broncos. Well, in my mind I first skimmed it as Denver Religion followed by Broncos.
There you have this hometown fan’s Freudian slip!
Because for us Denver folks, we understand each other and our Broncomania religion!
To be honest, I am happy enough with the Broncos reaching this point in the season. Whatever the future holds, I am pleased they have come this far, that we are given positive Bronocmania moments of joy that engulf Denver and Denverites.
I keep hearing the Broncos referred to as the Underdog team. Well, no two words will mobilize me to root for anyone more than those two words. Aside from my home team spirit, those words immediately stoke my enthusiasm and double my rooting powers.
Broncos? The Underdog? Now that is a dangerous combination. Nothing like underdog talk to empower a team and its fans, right?
That said, these Carolina Panthers have something coming if they think our feisty Broncos team of players are the underdogs.
I lived through some major Bronco Super Bowl losses since high school. Then came the Elway days of victory. And then the recent chapters of Bronco excellence. Through it all the Broncos have become legendary. That’s what the Broncos are, legendary.
Now Peyton Mannings time has come. Peyton is legendary. An athlete extraordinaire. But more than that, he is a role model extraordinaire. He is a humble moral family guy; someone who actually cares about true underdogs in the world. Hes one of the good guys in the world, exercising his celebrity-clout and influence to make the world a better place.
For sure, Peyton deserves this Super Bowl win on account of his athletic prowess and also as a happy ending to a stellar football career. Thats true.
And on the Bronco religion level of course, it would also only be right for the good guy to come in first.
Go Broncos!
