Read the top line of the headline, Thursday, May 13, 2021: “Israel Unleashes Airstrikes; Hamas Answers with Rockets.”
As in: Jews killed 6 millions Nazis in the Holocaust.
As in: George Orwell. Truth is false and falsehood is true.
Israel did not unleash airstrikes which Hamas answered. Just the opposite: On Monday, May 10, Hamas unleashed rockets on Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv area and southern Israel (civilian targets, all). Israel answered with airstrikes.
If this account is deemed to be pro-Israel, partisan, purblind bias, then George Washington was never president of the United States and Joe Biden isn’t president now —nor is the Denver Post’s own story under its headline true.
For the story by the Associated Press, underneath this headline, contradicts the headline. The story writes: “U.N. chief Antonio Guterres condemnned ‘the indiscriminate launching of rockets’ from civilian areas in Gaza toward Israeli population centers, but he also urged Israel to show ‘maximum restraint”; i.e., Hamas started this war with Israel, not the other way around.
The story then states this even more directly: “Hamas, claiming to be defending Jerusalem, launched a barrage of rockets at the city late Monday [May10], setting off days of fighting.” Does the headline writer at even read his own story?
The AP story also writes this: “The current eruption of violence began a month ago in Jerusalem, where heavy-handed Israeli police tactics during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the threatened eviction of Palestinian families by Jewish settlers ignited protests and clashes with police.”
This is incorrect. The violence began a month ago in Jerusalem — yes — but not by Israeli police. It began with the unprovoked attacks by Arabs in Jerusalem against Jews on the street, attacks that were so brutal that many of the Jewish victims had to be hospitalized. The clash between Israeli police and Muslim pilgrims during Ramadan came after the initial violence and Israeli protests against it. Again, the Post and the AP have their facts exactly backward.
Or, to the Post and the AP, are Arab attacks on Jews in Jerusalem simply of no moral import?
With headlines like the one above, is it any wonder that anti-Semitism is skyrocketing these days?
