Next summer’s garden

It’s that time of summer again: the end of it.

All that wonderful summer produce we have been busy with is soon going to be a faint memory.

Carol Coen of the IJN front desk is a talented and avid gardener. She seems to be growing everything! Every few days she generously shared an avalanche of fresh produce from her yard. I felt like her garden was my private little farm.

One day, I hope to have my own garden — and, yes, farm! The place for fruit-picking adventures, the place where ducklings are hatched and little goats are born, where the roosters and chickens run free, I am ready.

A lot of good meals were prepared and shared with Carol’s fresh garden vegetables and fruits. There was roasted poblano and corn soup with carrots and cumin. A blueberry crumble, a peach cobbler and pie, zucchini tarts and watermelon drinks spritzed with some lime and fragrant torn fresh mint. Strawberry galettes made it into the summer dessert scape, too.
