ROSH HASHANAH EDITION 5778SECTION D PAGE 8 new groups in Denver — a Latin American chavurah and a Torah class for native Spanish-speakers — are augmenting social and religious opportunities for Latin American Jews. The Latin American chavurah at the HEA, founded by anthropologist Carlos Zarur, attracted 14 Jews to its first meeting earlier this summer. The second event, a Shabbat dinner, drew 40 people. Currently, 67 Latin American Jews, including children, are on the email list. Fun and familiarity are key priorities for participants. They speak fluent English, varying degrees of Hebrew but converse in Spanish or Portuguese at the chavurah.
