Nancy Markowitz

Nancy Markowitz, a former Denverite who always said her fondest memories were of Denver, passed away Oct. 15, 2020, in St. Louis Park, Minn. Rabbi Harold Kravitz officiated at the Oct. 18 service at Adath Jeshurun-United Hebrew Brotherhood Cemetery in Richfield, Minn. Washburn-McReavy made the arrangements.

Mrs. Markowitz was born May 26, 1929, in St. Paul, Minn.

She earned a BA in education at the University of Minnesota.

On Aug. 12, 1951, she married Herman S. Markowitz.

Mrs. Markowitz resided in several cities, including Denver, St. Louis, Mo.; Oakland, Calif.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and White Plains, NY.

A teacher until she devoted herself to raising her family, Mrs. Markowitz tutored adult English language learners from many countries.

She held several jobs, including at a local newspaper and at General Mills, after her children were older.

Wherever she lived, Mrs. Markowitz was an active member of the Jewish community. She belonged to Hadassah and other Jewish groups, and sang with various synagogue choirs.

Nancy Markowitz is survived by Herman Markowitz, her husband of 69 years; sister, Sharyn Effress Pessess; children Joy Markowitz, Dr. Lauri Markowitz and Diane Markowitz; grandchildren Elana (Amanda Torres) Eisen-Markowitz, Jack (Nora Toiv) Eisen-Markowitz, Rachel Shaffer, Jeremy Shaffer, Ben Reaman and Sam Reaman; and one great-grandchild.
