Murray Fersztendig, a Holocaust survivor and master tailor, passed away Sept. 7, 2013, in Denver.
Rabbi Ben Greenberg and Cantor Joel Lichterman officiated at the Sept. 9 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
My dad survived the Holocaust, and in spite of the horrors was able to lead a productive and meaningful life of hard work, devotion to family, and faith, said his daughter Sylvia Singer.
Mr. Fersztendig was born on Yom Kippur, 1917, in Poland.
After the war, he lived in New York and Oklahoma City before moving to Denver in the early 1950s.
He married Helen Fersztendig on June 7, 1945. Mrs. Fersztendig passed away on April 2, 1998.
Mr. Fersztendig owned Murray Mens Wear on Second Ave. and Fillmore in Cherry Creek.
He retired from the tailoring business in 1969 and started a new career in real estate.
Mr. Fersztendig, who belonged to BMH-BJ for more than 50 years, attended daily minyanim for years.
He was a staunch supporter of Jewish National Fund.
Active at the JCC, he exercised at the center every day for half a century and enjoyed attending the senior lunches.
Mr. Fersztendig is survived by his daughters Sylvia (the late Dr. Stuart) Singer of Denver and Barbara Sparig of Denver; grandchildren Jeremy Sparig of Brooklyn, Tana Rosenberg of Denver, Jordan Singer of Natick, Mass., and Dr. Steve Singer of Silver Spring, Md.; and seven great-grandchildren.
