Moshe Luber, a respected tax attorney in Denver, passed away April 27, 2009, in Denver. He was 60 years old.
Stephen Kapnik and Charles H. Jacobs of Kohelet officiated at the graveside service at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Approximately 15 years ago, Mr. Luber was injured while playing rugby. He was initially paralyzed from the chin down but regained feeling throughout his body in varying degrees.
He learned to drive and walk, sometimes with a walker or a cane, but always with great intensity, Chuck Jacobs said at the service.
The Hon. John Webb, judge of the Colorado Court of Appeals and long time friend of Mr. Luber, reminisced about their days as law students at CU and their mutual love of gardening. The judge said he would recall Moshe fondly every time he prepared his garden for winter and revitalized it in the spring.
Mr. Lubers nephew Samuel Aborne spoke about how he appreciated his uncles generosity, devotion to family and his amazing intellect.
Mr. Luber was born Dec. 31, 1948, in Denver. He graduated from Hillel Academy, North High, and received his BA and JD from CU and his LLM in taxation from DU.
He was a weightlifter, rugby player and runner until he was injured.
Mr. Luber began his law practice with Brenman Sobol & Baum. He then went to the law offices of Ellis Sobol and later became a shareholder in Bourke Jacobs Luber PC.
He was a shareholder in Lohf Shaiman Jacobs Hyman & Feiger PC at the time of his death.
Mr. Luber was one of the featured participants on the Resilience series of DVDs produced in association with the Center for Digital Story Telling.
I dont know when I will get to where I want to be, or even what it means, he said of his post-injury life. But I know I am doing all I can each day.
Mr. Luber is survived by his sister Bonnie Sue Aborne; nephews Aaron and Samuel Aborne; and numerous cousins.
