Morey ‘Sonny’ Katz

Morey “Sonny” Katz, who came to Denver at age two, passed away March 2, 2017, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Elizabeth Sacks officiated at the March 5 service at Temple Emanuel. Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“He loved spending time with his family and friends more than anything else, had a great sense of humor and thoroughly enjoyed life,” the family said.

“He was loved by so many, and will be greatly missed.”

Mr. Katz was born April 4, 1929, in White Plains, NY.

A 1948 graduate of North High, Mr. Katz served with the US Army in the Korean War.

He married Norma Zivin Katz on Dec. 27, 1955. Mrs. Katz passed away on Nov. 29, 2011.

Mr. Katz was the data processing manager for the Colorado Worker’s Compensation Fund for more than 30 years and retired at age 55.

After his retirement, he ran the senior companion program for Senior’s Inc., for 10 years. He retired again at age 65.

Mr. Katz is survived by his children Mark (Lynn) Katz of Denver, Lori (Steven) Winter of Denver, Lisa (Daniel) Freyling of Kirkland, Wash., and Diane (Stephen) Keeton of Highlands Ranch; grandchildren Jennifer Katz, Jeffrey (Whitney) Katz, Scott (Mary) Winter, Ryan Winter, Brandon Freyling, and Andrew and Katherine Keeton; great-grandson Aiden Mensah of Denver; brother Bernard (Shana) Katz of Denver and brother-in-law Lawrence (Karen) Zivin of Portland, Ore.
