Morey Langert, a WW II veteran, jeweler and watchmaker, passed away July 30, 2016, in Denver. He was 95. Rabbi Avraham Mintz officiated at the graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Mr. Langert was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Denver, to Abraham and Augusta Langert. He attended North High School.
In 1938, at age 17, he earned his private pilot’s license at the Ray Wilson Flying School at the Park Hill Airport.
Mr. Langert enlisted in the US Army Air Corps on Oct. 24, 1942. Trained in communications, he was a radio operator in the 8th and 9th Army Air Corps in the European Theater.
Stationed in England, Ireland and France, Mr. Langert was then stationed in Germany following the surrender.
He was honorably discharged from the military on Jan. 31, 1946, after four years of service.
He married Rosalyn Witkin, daughter of Bessie and Louis Witkin of Denver, on Jan. 1, 1951. Mrs. Witkin passed away on March 21, 1997.
Mr. Langert and his twin brother Harold owned Twin Jewelers in downtown Denver.
He continued to work as a jeweler and watchmaker for the majority of his career, including managing the fine jewelry department at Cherry Creek Denver Dry Goods Company.
An inventor, his design for a specialized watch-making tool was successfully marketed to wholesale distributors. He also worked on a variation of solar power for vehicles.
Until age 92, Mr. Langert continued offering his watch-making skills to the senior community in Denver and Aurora.
He moved into the Veterans Community Living Center at the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora in 2014.
Mr. Langert is survived by his daughter Adrian Langert and son Alden Langert; grandchildren Jakob and Cammie Langert, all of Denver; and multiple nieces and nephews.
