Mildred Terr

Mildred Rosen Terr, who stayed in the Denver Sheltering Home for Jewish Children from 1931-1934, passed away November 30, 2017, in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She was 99.

Rabbi Chava Carp officiated at the Dec. 17 graveside service at Montefiore Cemetery in Las Vegas, and Rabbi Min Kantrowitz facilitated the Dec. 18 memorial service.

“Mildred was completely involved in the lives of her children and in the community,” the family said. “She was generous and helpful, a friend and even a surrogate to many.

“She remained sharp, interested and involved in the lives of others.”

Mrs. Terr was born in May, 1918, in Jamestown, NY, to Tom and Celia Rosen.

When her mother sought treatment for tuberculosis in Denver, Mildred and her siblings were placed in the Sheltering Home while their father went around the country trying to find work.

The family settled in San Antonio, Texas, where Mrs. Terr graduated high school in 1935. She later earned a BA in history from New Mexico Highlands University in 1969.

Mrs. Terr met her future husband Dr. Isaac Terr in New York City, where she worked as a fashion model and he was doing his internship. They married in February, 1942, and moved to New Mexico in 1958.

Dr. Terr passed away in February, 1986.

A community volunteer and leader in civic organizations, she was a longtime member of PEO International Chapter H.

Mrs. Terr is survived by her children Laurie (Venanzio) Ascenzi, Lewis Terr, Jim Terr and Nancy (Robert Behrendt) Terr; grandchildren Francesca Ascenzi, Damon and Kelly Terr, Rebecca and Toby Konno and Neal Behrendt, and great-grandchildren Dane and Emma Konno and Silas Konno Perez.

She was predeceased by her daughter Dana Terr and grandson Jeffrey Terr.

    Thank you for printing this. The memorial service was February 18,2018, well attended and facilitated by PEO chapter H, where she would like memorials sent. (C/0 Nancy Terr 734 Tramway Lane, Albuquerque, NM87122) The Rosen family called Olean, NY home mostly. They stopped off in San Antonio, long enough for Mildred to graduate High school , then returned to New York. We are grateful for her long, meaningful life
