Mildred Cohen, who volunteered at the Rose Hospital Gift Shop for 28 years, passed away March 23, 2018, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster and Cantor Elizabeth Sacks officiated at the March 25 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Mildred had a long, wonderful and loving life with her husband Boots Cohen and her children, and enjoyed doing many activities with the family and good friends,” her loved ones said.
“She had a warm heart, was kind to everybody and had a wonderful sense of humor.”
Mrs. Cohen, the fourth of six children, was born March 31, 1914, in Chicago, Ill.
After graduating high school in Los Angeles at age 16, she started working as a dental assistant.
She married Sam “Boots” Cohen of Denver on Aug. 31, 1942.
While her husband was in basic training at Camp Crowder, Mo., Mrs. Cohen assisted the army dentist.
When the couple moved to Denver after WW II, Mrs. Cohen worked as a salesperson in her husband’s pawn shop, Capitol Loan.
Mr. Cohen passed away on Jan. 20, 1991.
Initially a volunteer at National Jewish Hospital for several years, Mrs. Cohen volunteered for nearly three decades at Rose Hospital, which honored her for her dedication and service.
She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and traveling.
Mrs. Cohen is survived by her son Dr. Allan (Molly Ream) Cohen and daughter Dr. Barbara (Dr. John) Martinez; sisters-in-law Shirlee Goldman and Pearl Billings, all of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
Her daughter-in-law Linda Cohen predeceased her.
