Michal Uziyahu selected as AJF shlichah from Israel

Michal Peleg Uziyahu and her husband Amir with their children, l-r, Shi- ra, 6, and twins Ofri and Ron, 4.Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, in cooperation with the Jewish Agency for Israel, has selected Michal Peleg Uziyahu as Israel shlichah (emissary) to the Jewish community of Colorado.

Her position starts in the fall.

In this capacity, she will be available to schools, synagogues and organizations throughout the area to provide a wealth of resources to the community, including educational programming, commentary on current and historical events, and counsel about travel to and volunteer opportunities in Israel.

Uziyahu has a direct connection to federation’s Partnership 2000 region, Ramat Negev.

She was born and raised in the Negev and currently works for the Negev Development Authority.

As tourism and culture coordinator, she facilitates collaborative efforts between government ministries and the private sector, promoting tourism to the Negev.

Denver has not h

ad an Israeli emissary since 2007-2009, when Raz Arbel acted in that capacity. Since then, the federation has been working to find benefactors to underwrite the shlichut program in Colorado.

Rick Kornfeld, chair of AJF’s Israel, National and Overseas Board, said, “We are thrilled to be able to bring back this valuable program and grateful to the group of donors who have enabled us to make this a reality.

“Michal will strengthen our community’s connection with Israel while increasing the Colorado community’s understanding of Israel’s role in today’s global society.”

Uziyahu will also work with young adults interested in traveling to Israel through Birthright, Masa and other short or long-term trips.

After serving two years in the Israeli Army, she received her bachelors’ degree and an MBA from Ben Gurion University.

Michal and her husband, Amir, have three children.

Amir Uziyahu is working on a doctorate at BGU on the approach of the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin to the Holocaust.

The Uziyahus are excited about joining the Denver Jewish community.
