Michael Jeffrey Flaxer, a Denver native and special education teacher for over 20 years, passed away March 12, 2021, in Denver. Rabbis Bruce Dollin, Salomon Gruenwald and Yaakov Chaitovsky and Cantors Arielle Greene and Martin Goldstein officiated at the March 16 graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Michael was a very kind, caring and quiet man,” his loved ones said. “He had a big heart and his family meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed.”
Mr. Flaxer was born Oct. 10, 1945, in Denver to the late Dr. Carl and Evelyn Flaxer. At age 7 he moved to Keenesburg, Colo., where Dr. Flaxer became the town’s family physician.
The family returned to Denver just in time for their son’s Bar Mitzvah, which took place at Beth Joseph.
Mr. Flaxer, a member of George Washington High School’s first graduating class, attended CU, graduated from DU and earned an MA in education at UNC.
Employed as a special education teacher for the St. Vrain Valley School District in Longmont for over 20 years, he changed occupations and worked for Comcast for over 12 years.
Mr. Flaxer and his wife Sharlyn Klein Flaxer were married at Beth Joseph and attended the shul until it closed. They now belong to HEA, where Mr. Flaxer enjoyed attending services.
Michael Jeffrey Flaxer is survived by his wife of over 48 years Sharlyn Flaxer; children Erik Flaxer and Karen Flaxer; sister Lisa (Jacques) Ruda; brother-in-law Mark (the late Susan) Zalkin; and in-laws Gayle and Bernhard Benet and Arlene and Dr. Robert Leder.
