Mary Brooks, a Denver resident since 1957, passed away Oct. 28, 2017, in Denver. She was 85. Rabbi Joe Black officiated at the Nov. 1 service at Feldman Chapel. A reception followed at the JCC. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Mary seemed to charm the world, and everyone she met fell in love with her wherever she went,” the family said.

“Her greatest loves were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”

Mary Ruth Borden was born on March 2, 1932, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Orphaned at the age of 13, she struck out on her own to Chicago, Ill.

She met Marvin Rubin in Chicago, and they married in 1954.

In 1957, after putting her husband through optometry school, they moved to Denver where he established his practice.

Mr. Rubin passed away in 1958.

She married Leon Brooks in 1959. Married 31 years, Mr. Brooks passed away in 1990.

Mrs. Brooks loved bingo and going to Las Vegas. She first went there in the 1940s and made her last trip a few months ago.

She moved to Brookdale in 2004.

Mary Brooks is survived by her sister Jackie Wolff; children Sherri Tucker, Joy Chavez, Sid Brooks, Nick Brooks and Tony Burkhart; sons-in-law Lynn Tucker and Michael Chavez and daughters-in-law Elizabeth Flaagon, Sherry Brooks, Gail Brooks and Carol Brooks; grandchildren Dawn Brooks Burger, Shawna Brooks, Stacey Brooks, Chris Brooks, Kelly Brooks, Kristen Brooks, Lincoln Brooks, Dylan Brooks, Jonathan Reed, Brendan Reed and Michael Reed; great-grandchildren Kinzley Reed, Bentley Reed, Basil Reed and Liam Reed; and three nieces and three nephews.

“She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend,” her loved ones said. “We will miss her very much.”

Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by her son Larry Brooks.
