Marvin Wolf

Marvin Eli Wolf, an oil and gas pioneer, attorney, arts patron and philanthropist, died peacefully on March 15, 2020, in Denver. Rabbis Joe Black and Steven Foster officiated at the private burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

Mr. Wolf was born March 3, 1931, in Kimball, Neb., to Leon and Dora Wolf. He was raised in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in 1952 and his law degree from CU in 1954.

Mr. Wolf and his brother Erving founded the Wolf Land Co., which later became the Inexco Oil Co. Under their leadership, Inexco discovered Wyoming’s four trillion-cubic-foot Madden Gas Field and the Key Lake Uranium Mine in Saskatchewan, Canada.

When Louisiana Gas acquired Inexco, Mr. Wolf opened Wolf Energy in Denver.

Mr. Wolf held leadership positions with the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Assn. and was inducted into the Colorado Oil and Gas Hall of Fame.

A favorite recipient of Mr. Wolf’s philanthropy was CU Law School. He received numerous awards from the school.

He and his wife Judi had a passion for the performing arts. Mr. Wolf provided significant support for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Opera Colorado, the Denver Symphony Orchestra, the Denver Art Museum, Temple Emanuel and the ADL.

Marvin Wolf is survived by his wife of 37 years Judi Wolf; daughter Wendy (Bob) Kaufman; stepsons Lance (Barbara) Chayet, Victor (Susan) Chayet and Marco (Paige) Chayet; and grandchildren John, William and Meredith Kaufman, Grant, Logan, Devon and Caleb Chayet.
