Marvin ‘Smitty’ Smith
Marvin “Smitty” Smith, founder of Smith, Brooks, Bolshoun & Co. CPAs, passed away Dec. 23, 2018, in Denver. Rabbi Bruce Dollin and Cantor Martin Goldstein officiated at the Dec. 25 service at the HEA. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“He will be missed by family, friends and neighbors,” his loved ones said.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Denver.
He attended North High and DU.
Mr. Smith served in the US Navy Air Corps in WW II, 1942-1946.
He married Goldie Cohen Smith on Jan. 19, 1947. Married for almost 72 years, they traveled extensively.
Mr. Smith belonged to the Colorado Society of CPAs (former director-at-large), and the American Institute of CPAS, where he chaired the insurance committee, annual meetings committee, and management of accounting, practice and publications committee.
Past president of Jefferson County CPAs, he served on the consultation staff of the American Nursing Home Assn. and spoke before the House, Ways and Means Committee in Washington, DC.
A member of the El Jebel Temple, Mr. Smith spent many Sundays wearing his Shrine clown suit as he delivered gifts to children at the Children’s Hospital.
Past president of the Hebrew Educational Alliance’s Men’s Club, he was known as the “Candy Man” for handing out candy to the children.
After retiring from his CPA practice, Mr. Smith spent over nine years volunteering at the Probate Court and Channel 7 honored him as “Hero of the Day” for his service.
He was a Broncos and Rockies fan.
Mr. Smith is survived by wife Goldie Smith; son Sheldon (Lucy) Smith and daughter Tina Ashburn; grandchildren Adam (Liz) Smith, Amanda (Sam) Sells and Lauren (John) Coughlin; and great-grandchildren Lisa, Alex, Harper, Avery and Asher.
He was predeceased by his son Gary Michael Smith on Feb. 28, 2016.
