Funeral services for Marvin Paul Feinsmith, an accomplished classical musician and composer, took place Feb. 11, 2020 at The Jewish Experience. Rabbi Raphael Leban officiated at services for Mr. Feinsmith who passed away Feb. 9. Burial took place at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Born in Brooklyn on Dec. 4, 1932, Mr. Feinsmith was educated in high school and yeshiva there and later earned a Masters in Composition from the Manhattan School of Music and studied at Julliard.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Living in Europe, New Jersey and Denver, Mr. Feinsmith worked in many musical venues, including 10 years each with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Denver Symphony Orchestra as a bassoonist and contra-bassoonist.
In Denver during the 1970s and early 1980s, he also performed with the orchestra of the Central City Opera and with the Colorado Chautauqua in Boulder. When he resided in New Jersey during the 1990s, he performed in Broadway musicals, composed songs and longer pieces and performed on the soundtracks for several major motion pictures.
After his return to Denver in 2012, he continued performing for smaller orchestras in local venues.
Mr. Feinsmith was a member of the Denver chapter of the JWV and attended services at BMH-BJ.
He is survived by his wife Roberta Feinsmith of Denver; his children Daniel Feinsmith of San Francisco, Sarah Feinsmith of Queens, NY and Rabbi Samuel Feinsmith (Sarah-Bess Dworin) of Skokie, Ill.; and his granddaughter Elanit Feinsmith of Skokie.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra or The Jewish Experience.
