Marjie Allon

Marjorie Baer Allon, longtime proprietor of Marjie Allon Fine Stationery in Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away Oct. 1, 2018, in Pittsburgh. She was 95. Services were held Oct. 3. Ralph Schugar Chapel made the arrangements.

“Marjie was well known,” says daughter-in-law Sue Allon. “I first heard of her a couple of years before I met my husband Harvey. I was at a very nice wedding in Washington, DC, and compliment- ed the mother of the bride on the beautiful announcements.

“I remember so clearly the look of satisfaction on her face as she said, ‘Why thank you, they are from Marjie Allon Fine Stationery in Pittsburgh!’ . . . I made a mental note that my own stationery would have to come from that store some day.”

Mrs. Allon was born April 16, 1923, in Pittsburgh.

She grew up in Squirrel Hill, graduated Allderdice High in 1941 and earned a BA in home economics from the Margaret Morris School at Carnegie Tech (later Carnegie Mellon) in 1945.

Marjie Baer married Joseph Elihu Allon on March 10, 1947. Mr. Allon passed away on Jan. 10, 2008.

Mrs. Allon owned her successful stationary store on Walnut Street from the early 1970s until 2000.

She retired in 2004.

“I think people came to her because she was so social, so lively and such a sparkly kind of person,” her daughter Jane Allon Cuddehe of Iowa told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Mrs. Allon is survived by her sons Harvey (Sue) Allon of Denver, David (Pamela) Allon of Connecticut, Eric (Monica) Allon of Boston and daughter Jane (Michael) Cuddehe of Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
