Longtime Denver resident Marilyn Butterman, 85, died Nov. 3, 2021. A graveside service was held Nov. 5, 2021 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, officiated by Rabbi Bruce Dollin.

Mrs. Butterman was born on April 25, 1936 in the Bronx, NY. She attended Harlem College and worked as a special needs teacher for young children for many years.

On Labor Day weekend in 1960 she met Dr. Norman Butterman at the Tarleton Resort in New Hampshire. The two were engaged by the end of the weekend, and returned to Montreal, Quebec, where Dr. Butterman grew up and practiced dentistry.

In 1979, due to political unrest in Quebec, Dr. and Mrs. Butterman relocated to Denver. The couple was married until Dr. Butterman’s death in 2020.

“She was a creative, expressive and loving mom, a poet who encouraged self-expression and creativity in her children,” the family said.

Mrs. Butterman is survived by her children Susan (David) Brody and Daniel (Irene) Butterman of Denver, and Steven (Nelson) Butterman of Miami Beach, along with five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Bruce Butterman and grandson Jordan Brody.
