Marilyn Shidler Kadish Bolton, a teacher and head librarian whose late father owned the Golden Eagle dry goods store in Pueblo, passed away July 20, 2021, in Denver. Rabbi Emily Hyatt officiated at the July 23 graveside service at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Marilyn enjoyed lively intellectual discussions, organized book and play groups and loved discussing foreign and art films,” the family said. “She loved beauty, which her home décor, clothing and jewelry reflected.”
Marilyn Shidler was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Denver, the daughter of Harry Shidler and Shirley Bloom Shidler. She worked in her father’s dry goods store as a girl but often hid on the roof to read her favorite books.
Recipient of a BA at CU, where she studied literature and poetry, she married journalist and sports writer Harvey Kadish. They were married for 26 years until he passed away.
A teacher at Carson Elementary, she received an MLS at DU and became acquisitions librarian for Jefferson County and later head librarian at the Villa Italia branch of Jefferson County Libraries.
She then married Otto Bolton. Together for nearly 30 years, the couple split their time between Palm Springs and Denver. Mr. Bolton passed away in 2000.
Mrs. Bolton opposed book censorship in schools and libraries.
“We are relieved that her suffering is finally over,” her loved ones said. “Now, living without her, ours has only begun.”
Marilyn Kadish Bolton is survived by her children Kenny (Elisa) Kadish, Rona (Rich Turk) Kadish and Laurel “Candy” Kadish; grandchildren Harlan (Hillary) Kadish and Joel Kadish; and great-grandchildren Elijah and Asher Kadish.
She was predeceased by son Craig Marshall Kadish in 2020 and stepson William “Bill” Bolton.
