Local agencies expand food, support to Denver’s needy

The goods are free. “My cart is full,” said Shakhasta Khazirova, who moved to Denver from Russia 15 years ago. “There’s nothing like this in Russia,” she added. “I’m still in shock every time I come here.” Each week, Khazirova makes the 40-minute commute to the Jewish Family Service Food Pantry. Founded by the late Jerry Carr, it has been feeding the community for 27 years.
