Lisl Lieselotte Penzias, who shared her lovely smile with everyone, passed away Jan. 27, 2014, in Denver. Rabbi Richard Rheins officiated at the Jan. 31 service at Temple Sinai.
Interment followed at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Lisl was such an inspiration and a person of enormous courage, grace and resilience, her family says. Her life was an intricate tapestry. She overcame tremendous obstacles with great vitality and spirit.
She would always say, What choice do you have? You have to live!
Lisl Rudinger Kuhn Penzias was born in 1920 in Vienna, Austria.
She obtained a visa, left Austria in 1940 and lived in Sydney, Australia, for 10 years with her brother.
A trained dressmaker and seamstress, she then moved to New York City.
Lisl outlived her husbands Ralph Kuhn and Fred Penzias, which required all her strength and drive for life.
One of her greatest passions was music. Whether cooking, reading the paper, working on the crosswords or relaxing, she always listened to classical music in her apartment.
Lisl is survived by her children Lynn (David Taenzer) Kuhn of Denver and Jeff (Julie) Kuhn of New York; stepmother of Leslie (Sue) Penzias of New York; and grandchildren Aaron, Jesse and Peter Taenzer, and Eric, Jillian and Zachary Kuhn.
