Leonard Gordon, 92, a Denver native who was a generous friend and supporter of the Jewish community, passed away Sept. 5, 2008, in Denver.
Rabbi Steven Foster officiated at the standing room-only service held Sept. 7 at Feldman Mortuary. Interment followed at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Leonard had integrity and was a vital part of the Denver community, his family said. He was surrounded by his loved ones and friends whenever there was a celebration or event to attend.
Leonard had a winning smile, bright blue penetrating eyes and a keen mind.Mr. Gordon was married to his wife Selma, his high school sweetheart, for 71 years. The couple celebrated their anniversary on Aug. 8.
Mr. Gordon and his late brother Edward owned Gordon Sign Co. from the 1940s until their retirement in 1981. The motto of the business was, When you see Gordon, its a good sign.
From 1982-2006, the Gordons resided in Palm Springs, Calif., for six months and Denver for six months.
Despite seven years of kidney disease and dialysis, Mr. Gordon attended many functions, including his great-grandchildrens Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Although he passed away a day before his youngest grandsons wedding, his spirit permeated the celebration, said daughter Peggy Marks.
He loved tennis. That was his game, the family said.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife Selma Katz Gordon; children Judy Gordon, Sharon Nantell, Peggy Marks, David Marks, Richard Gordon and Juli Gordon; grandchildren Jodi Zeppelin, Wendy (Buddy) Berger, Ronald Marks, Debra (Mike) Nichols and James (Helen) Marks; and five great-grandchildren.
