Lenore Wolpa

Lenore “Layah” Wolpa, 89, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, where she lived with her husband for many years, on May 23, 2021. Cantor Martin Goldstein officiated at the May 26 graveside service at Golden Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Layah will be missed,” her loved ones said, “and the people who knew her are better for having had her in their lives. May G-d bless her and keep her in peace, as she will live forever in our grateful memory.”

Mrs. Wolpa was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Iowa to Arthur Baird and Rose “Razel” Baird. After a squabble over pie at her mother-in-law’s house, Razel packed up Layah, son Harvey, left her husband, and returned to her family in Denver.

Layah was raised by her mother and uncles on 14th Ave. and Meade St., across from the old Hebrew Educational Alliance.

A student at Cheltenham, Lake and North High, she attended the University of Nebraska, where she met Leonard “Lenny” Wolpa. Rabbi Manuel Laderman officiated at their wedding at the HEA,

Mr. Wolpa reenlisted in the Air Force. Once his service ended, the couple joined the family car business, which evolved into a travel trailer concern, in Denver.

When the business later failed, the couple started a new company in metal building products and equipment.

Upon selling it, they retired and bought a winter home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mr. Wolpa’s passing in 2012 devastated his wife. Her health began to deteriorate, but she remained keenly involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lenore “Layah” Wolpa is survived by her children Mindy Wolpa and Alan (Sylvia) Wolpa; grandchildren Zach (Lindsay) Wolpa, Amy (Cameron) Pugh, Ryan Wolpa and Shawna Mequet; and great-grandchildren Max Wolpa and Fredi Pugh.

Contributions in her name may be made to JFS or Shalom Park.
