Leah Farfel Rottman, widow of the late Stormy Rottman, popular local weathercaster, passed away April 9, 2014, in Wheat Ridge, Colo. Rabbi Brian Field officiated at the April 14 graveyard service at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Mrs. Rottman began writing poetry at 88. In 2009, at age 90, she won the Denver Posts Haiku contest. It was one of her proudest achievements.
Born April 2, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., Leah Farfel graduated Roosevelt High, where she was the editor of the school newspaper and worked on the yearbook staff.
She attended Wright Junior College and the University of Chicago.
Leah married Leon Stormy Rottman in 1942. Mr. Rottman passed away in 1993.
Mrs. Rottman was an accountant, social worker and bookkeeper. She worked for the Air Force Academy Foundation, Denver International House and Historic Denver, Inc. She particularly cherished her involvement with Denver Sister Cities International.
A military wife, Mrs. Rottman was stationed with her family in Japan, Germany and elsewhere. She corresponded with more than 200 friends she met during her world travels.
Her writing skills came in handy as a newsletter editor for nonprofits.
She lived in Denver for the last 45 years of her life.
Mrs. Rottman is survived by her daughter Vicki Rottman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
