Laurie F. Bryan, a native Denverite and active member of the Albuquerque Jewish community, passed away Jan. 15, 2010, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 69.
A private family memorial service was held Jan. 18 at Bnai Israel Synagogue in Albuquerque.
Laurie was an amazing friend, touching the lives all she met, the family said.
Mrs. Bryan was born in 1940 in Denver to Lottie and George Fischer and graduated East High in 1957.
While studying English literature at the University of Chicago, she made lifelong friendships with famous beat poets, authors and musicians.
Mrs. Bryan returned to Denver and began a career in financial services, first with FIF and then Financial Programs.
In 1969, she married C.D. Bryan of Carlsbad, NM.
Later that year, the couple relocated to Minneapolis where they lived until moving to Albuquerque in 1976.
Mrs. Bryan and her husband owned and operated Economic Consultants.
After Mr. Bryans death in 1996, she continued working in the financial industry.
Mrs. Bryan was active at Bnai Israel, where she was Sisterhood president and also served on many committees and boards.
A gourmet cook, she loved music and the arts, particularly Southwestern art, and regularly attended concerts, plays, operas and craft fairs. She also enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by her son Brad (Lisa) of Silver Spring, Md.; stepdaughter Melissa Cohen of Albuquerque; brother Neil Fitzgerald of Phoenix, Ariz.; and aunt Josie Stein of Denver.
