the recommendation of a fellow synagogue goer, I am currently reading The Girl in Green, an international thriller that plays out in the Nineveh region of Iraq, which borders Syria. Apropos of nothing, one of the characters — he does talk a lot — observes that a penchant of Jewish people is to be aware and point out if some relatively well known person is Jewish. Guilty as charged. Just last week, I was watching the Clint Eastwood movie “Bird” about Charlie Parker, and after allusion was made to Parker’s common law wife’s probable Jewish heritage, I had to take a moment to pause the film and comment how amazing it was that Charlie Parker’s son has probable Jewish ancestry.
