Joe Resnick

Joseph Franklin Resnick, an engineer who supervised major projects for the US Postal Service, passed away May 29, 2020, in Denver. Rabbi Rick Rheins officiated at the June 3 graveside service at Emanuel Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.

“Joe died a very contented man, surrounded by his family, a mountain view and comforted in the knowledge that he had led a wonderful life and ‘wouldn’t change a thing,’” his loved ones said.

Mr. Resnick was born April 4, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY, to Murray Resnick and Ethel Gerstenzang Resnick.

He graduated Brooklyn Tech and Pratt Institute, where he was an electrical engineering major, and earned an MA in operations research from Cornell University.

He met Yvonne Kramer during his first week at Cornell, and they married one year later.

After working at Bell Labs in Holmdel, NJ, he accepted a job with the US Postal Service’s engineering division in Washington, DC.

Involved in the development of electronic mail, a precursor to email, in the 1970s and 80s, he then led the project for the automation of mail via remote bar code reading.

His passion for skiing strongly influenced his children, who spent nearly all their vacations on the ski slopes and eventually moved here.

In 2011, the couple relocated from Fairfax, Va., to Broomfield to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Mr. Resnick and his wife traveled to the Galapagos Islands, China, Australia, and throughout Europe. Shortly after returning from a trip to Spain and Portugal, he was diagnosed with cancer and died 13 months later.

Joe Resnick is survived by his wife Yvonne Resnick; son Eric (Sara) Resnick and daughter Emily (Kenny) McCarty; grandchildren Michael, Allie and Emma Resnick, Mason and Colin McCarty; and brother Charles Resnick.
