Joseph Mabo, a veteran of the Korean War, passed away May 16, 2013, at The Denver Hospice. Rabbis Asher Klein and Daniel Alter officiated at the May 17 graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
Dad was loved by all, his family said. He had a sense of humor, loved animals and was a kind, gentle man. Deeply appreciative of his family and their accomplishments, he was also proud of his military service in the Korean War.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Mabo was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, to David and Mary Miller Mabo.
Educated in Montreal, he worked in the garment industry.
A soldier in the Canadian Armed Forces, Mr. Mabo was a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Mabo was married to Susan Backman Mabo.
He moved to Norfolk, Va., in 1967, lived in Columbus, Ohio, 1970-1974, and Cincinnati, Ohio, 1974-2001. He owned a small business in the states.
Upon his retirement in 2001, Mr. Mabo and his wife relocated to Boynton Beach, Fla.
The couple moved to Denver on April 12, 2013, to be closer to family.
A member of several organizations, Mr. Mabo received awards from Bnai Brith and Citizens on Patrol (COPs).
He loved taking cruises with his wife and going on trips with his grandchildren.
Mr. Mabo is survived by his wife Susan Mabo of Denver; children David (Terry) Mabo of Cincinnati and Karen (Craig) Schottenstein of Denver; grandchildren Leah (Yissachar) Levine of Toronto, Noah and Miriam Schottenstein of Denver, David (Jackie) Guberman and daughter Violet of Maryland; sister Ida Rubin of Arizona; and brother-in-law Howard (Lise) Brackman of Montreal.
